MARK A. TANNER
DIRECTOR
Mr. Mark Tanner serves as Director at Homeland Security Solutions. In his role as Director, Mr. Tanner leads the firm’s first responder and critical infrastructure group. This nationwide team is made up of Federal, state and local first responders and representatives from the critical infrastructure community. Mr. Tanner leads this group which reviews new and emerging technologies and determines their market viability. Mr. Tanner has a 23-year career in law enforcement and has held a variety of positions in several technology companies.
During his time in the Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI), Mr. Tanner achieved the rank of Senior Executive Service. Upon his retirement, he was the Director of the Foreign Terrorist Tracking Task Force (FTTTF). The FTTTF is a multi-agency national task force created by Homeland Security Presidential Directive #2. FTTTF is responsible for providing support to operational components of law enforcement and the intelligence community. Its mission is to keep foreign terrorists and their supporters out of the U.S. and lead to their deportation, surveillance, or prosecution. It included various risk assessments including foreign flight students applying to attend flight training in the U.S. after September 11th. During his tenure as FTTTF director, he also established the Terrorist Screening Center, which was initially collocated with FTTTF.
Mr. Tanner was selected to the Senior Executive Service to function as the FBI’s information resources manager. In this role, he established the Office of the Chief Information Officer (CIO) while serving as the Deputy CIO. As the Deputy CIO he was responsible for the FBI’s enterprise architecture, information technology investment board, oversaw independent verification and validation contracts, and was the Accrediting Authority for the operation of FBI systems.
He currently serves as co-chair of the FBI’s Infragard Cyber Security Special Interest Group (Cyber SIG) for the Infragard National Capital Region Member Alliance.
